Information for participants
New applicants to PTCMAAS must meet several requirements including education and Safety certification. PTCMAAS offers the Certificate course in Acupuncture Safety and Clean Needle Technique.
This Alberta-approved Certificate course from the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CITCM) is provided for PTCMAAS applicants who do not have a safety examination certificate or safety credit course from a qualified TCM school or government licensing agency.
Who may register
Any person may register to take this course, even non-TCM practitioners. Persons who want to join PTCMAAS must also meet the minimum education and other requirements for membership. Completing this Acupuncture Safety Course does NOT guarantee approval for membership in PTCMAAS. We strongly recommend checking if your education courses and hours are acceptable before paying for this course. Date and location
The Acupuncture Safety course is held in Regina or Saskatoon through PTCMAAS. It is usually one day from 9:30 to 5:30; and occasionally on two days, from 10:00 to 3:00. Date and location are decided when there are at least four participants. In special circumstances, the course might be offered with fewer than four participants.

Registration
For information, contact PTCMAAS . After the date is decided, register with CITCM (1-403-520-5289 or 1-888-859-8686) for a username and password to access the online course materials.
Language and translation helpers
The course is in English. You may bring someone to help with reading, writing, talking and listening. Helpers do not have to pay for the course. The helper may only translate; they may not advise or correct the participant. If there is a mistake in translation, the English version is the official version.
Fees
The registration fee is $250 +$12.50 GST = $262.50. Fee is paid in advance to CITCM by cheque or credit card. There is no refund if you miss the course, or if you fail the exam.
The re-examination fee is $50.00 + $2.50 GST = $52.50 if you fail the exam and wish to re-take it, This fee is paid to CITCM.
You need an Acupuncture travel kit during the course and exam (see Acupuncture Safety book, p. 14). If you don’t have one, you may rent a kit for $40. You must request it before the course. Pay this optional fee at the course.
Preparation
After you have your username and password, log in at http://u.citcmcollege.com/login/index.php (2023)
Review the online materials (a 51-page Acupuncture Safety book and 3 videos, approximately 19 min, 6 min, and 10 min). They will be available for about one month before the course. You may watch them as often as you wish.
On the day of the course, there are four parts over 8-10 hours:
- The instructor(s) will review course material that was online and present additional information.
- Multiple-choice written test.
- Demonstration and practice of Clean Needle Technique
- Clean Needle Technique examination
Certification
CITCM will send official certificates to successful participants by mail. If the Safety certificate is your last requirement for PTCMAAS membership, the instructors can inform the Membership Committee that you succeeded so that your application process can move forward immediately.
Lunch:
There will be approximately 1 hour for lunch time. You may make your own arrangements. Some people go to a restaurant.
